【摘要】:Acolorantsometimesfailstodispersecompletelyinabasepaintduetopoorcompatibility,whichcanbethefaultofthecolorant,thepaint,orboth.Thiswillresultinpoorcolordevelopment,whichisreadilymanifestedbythecommonprocedureofapplyingthepaintwithadoctorbladeandsubjectingthedrawdowntohighshearstressbyfinger-rubbingasmallareaofthepartiallydryfilm.Thistendstodisperseundevelopedcolorant,ifany,andproducesacolorvariationbetweentheunshearedandshearedareasofthepaintfilm.Thevariationcanbemeasuredcolorimetricallytogiveanumericalcolordifferencevaluethatisameasureofthecolordevelopmentoftheoriginalpaint,thesmallerthedifferencethebetterthecolordevelopmentandviceversa.Colordifferencevaluesobtainedbyfinger-rubbingwerefoundtovarywidelyforthesameaswellasamongdifferentoperators.Thistestmethodestablishesacontrolledshear-stressprocedureanalogoustothefingerrub-uptest,butwithfarbetterreproducibility.Poorcolordevelopmentcanbeaproblemintheproductionofpaints,andintheirperformanceinthefield.Inproductionitcausesalossofcolorantmonetaryvalue,andunpredictabletintingresults.Infieldperformanceitresultsincolorvariationsintheappliedpaintfilmduetothevaryingshearforcestowhichthepaintissubjectedatdifferentstagesorbydifferentmodesofapplication.Althoughpoorcolordevelopmentisprimarilyandmostoftenrelatedtothecolorantportionofatintedpaint,thewhitepigmentinthebasepaintcanalsobepoorlydevelopedduetoflocculationorothercauses.Inthelattercase,sheardispersioncanmakethepaintfilmlighterandlesscolorful,ratherthanthereverse.Thentoo,thecolorantandthewhitemightbothbepoorlydeveloped,andthecolorchangeduetoshearstresswouldthenbethecombinedeffectofboth.Inanycase,colordevelopmentisanimportantpaintproperty,forthemeasurementofwhichthistestmethodisintendedtoprovideagenerallyacceptedandreproducibletestmethod.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedureformeasuringcolordevelopmentintintedlatexpaints,forthepurposeofdeterminingtheefficiencyofcolorants,thetintabilityofbasepaintsandthepotentialforpoorcoloruniformityofappliedpaintfilms.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
